Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs is hosting information sessions for women and men who are interested in pursing a Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree. Information sessions will be held on Tuesday, July 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, August 1 from noon to 1:00 p.m. Both sessions will be held at the Levin College, 1717 Euclid Avenue.

Students enrolled in the MPA program are preparing for leadership and management in government, nonprofit, and public service organizations such as federal, state, county and local governments, regional authorities and special districts, nonprofit and volunteer organizations, economic and community development, health and human service organizations and criminal justice agencies. “Due to retirements, many public sector agencies, especially in the federal government, are looking for highly qualified personnel,” noted Dr. Vera Vogelsang-Coombs, MPA Program Director. “The MPA degree is the gold standard of public service and provides opportunities for young professionals as well as experienced people seeking to change or advance their careers.”

Representatives and alumni from the Levin College’s MPA program and student services will present the program’s curriculum, admission requirements, financial aid, scholarships, support services, career development and more. Students will have the opportunity to meet with the program director, Dr. Vogelsang-Coombs, or schedule an appointment for further advising.

The MPA Program’s curriculum is designed to accommodate part-time, mid-career students, as well as full-time students. Courses are offered primarily during the evenings and a few on weekends. The MPA program multi-disciplinary, with courses offered by the Levin College, and Cleveland State University’s Department of Political Science, the College of Business and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

The MPA Program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). In addition the Levin College has been designated a “Center of Excellence” in Public Administration by Cleveland State University and the Ohio Board of Regents. The Levin College is Ohio’s only College of Urban Affairs and is ranked among the top eight schools of urban affairs in the United States. The College is ranked second in the graduate specialty of city management and urban policy in U.S. News and World Report’s 1998, 2002 and 2005 issues of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”
