Urban Alumni Organization Leadership is Undergoing Change
The good news is that Urban Affairs Alumni President Howard Thompson (’92 MPA) was recently voted in as Secretary to the CSU Alumni Association. The bad news is Howard will no longer be able to serve as president. Howard has had a successful tenure as president, highlighted by his coordination of many different “Behind the Scenes” tours and other activities designed to keep alumni engaged in the activities of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs and CSU. The Levin College has benefitted from his support and enthusiasm. Please join the College in thanking Howard and congratulating him on his new appointment. Howard is pictured to the right.
Rick Seifritz (’04 MUPDD) has agreed to serve as Interim President of the Alumni Organization until a new president is chosen. Rick is a research associate with Team NEO.
We now have more than 3,300 Urban Affairs alumni—you are the people making a real impact at all levels in our communities. Your help is needed to continue programming for Urban Alumni events. Do you have an idea for a Behind the Scenes tour? Would you be willing to host an event? This is an opportunity to showcase developments or projects of interest to your fellow alums. Send your ideas to the Levin College of Urban Affairs at j.mccrone@csuohio.edu.
The Levin College of Urban Affairs hosts the Great Lakes Cleveland Bioneers
Invitation from Patrick Davis ('07 MA in Environmental Studies)
For the second year, Great Lakes Bioneers–Cleveland will bring to Northeast Ohio the excitement and energy of the inspiring social and scientific innovators speaking at the national conference and a wide-ranging line-up of regional and local speakers, workshops and tours to communicate and celebrate the trailblazing work taking place in our region. This year's conference will emphasize water and the important and diverse role that it plays in the social, economic and natural environment of the Great Lakes Region.
Patrick Davis (’07 MA in Environmental Studies) is a member of the steering committee and invites all Urban alumni to participate.
On behalf of the Great Lakes Bioneers-Cleveland Steering Committee, I am writing to encourage Urban alumni to attend the Bioneers Conference Oct. 17-19. Join a "Revolution from the Heart of Nature" and witness how people are applying the knowledge and skills we learned in our programs to solve social and environmental problems. You'll hear from innovative local presenters and compelling national speakers who are creating real change in the world. This conference is certain to provide an uplifting, purposeful, unique and grounding experience. In the span of a couple hours, you can hear Alexandra Cousteau speak about "saving our water planet", collaborate with local students and teachers on green classrooms and green jobs, revive with a T'ai Chi lesson and enjoy a local organic treat. If you're unable to attend the conference on Friday, join the fun at the Eco-Fashion Show and Party that evening (cost $15). Be sure to check out the website www.gcbl.org/bioneers to see the list of more than 40 diverse workshops, tours and plenaries being offered over the three days, and register soon!
Sincerely,
Patrick Davis

Alumnus donates books to Levin College Student Chapter of the APA
Matthew Wascovich (’00 MS In Urban Studies) recently donated “a ton” of urban studies books to the College’s student chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). Jason Russell (MUPDD student and APA student chapter President) was happy to connect with Matt because of the group’s plans to begin a book share and library for students. If this idea sounds appealing, contact APA to arrange delivery.
