Dr. Chandler has worked both professionally and in civic organizations to promote broader civic participation.  She is Director of the Urban Child Research Center and also holds faculty appointments in both Levin College and the Department of Political Science at Cleveland State University.  Her areas of research have included issues of public housing, housing desegregation, community development, and race relations.  She is a trustee of The Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland, West Side Ecumenical Ministry, and Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation.  She also serves on the Education Committee of the Cleveland Chapter of the NAACP and worked through her denomination, United Church of Christ, for greater voter participation.  Dr. Chandler’s public contributions include serving on the Community Vision Council for the United Way’s Strong Families = Successful Children initiative.  Dr. Chandler conducts workshops on Policy Analysis and Managing Diversity for public officials through the Levin College’s Public Management Program.  Dr. Chandler has served on the boards of and as technical advisor to several community-based organizations in Detroit and Cleveland.
