In February 2007, the project team organized a large community meeting and presented potential interventions derived from best practices. Over 80 community residents, stakeholders, parents and youth attended the Saturday meeting and brainstormed possible pilot projects through the process of appreciative inquiry. During the 5-hour meeting, participants listed several possible intervention ideas that they would like to see implemented and might work for the Central community. The community chose an intervention designed around hip-hop dance, incorporating nutritional and education sessions and focus on ages 8-12 and their families.
