Health Equity: It's Time to Change

puzzle pieces

Why are there health disparities?

  • Racism
  • Poverty
  • Location of Doctors
  • Access to Health Care
  • Unsafe Neighborhoods

Healthy people constitute a healthy society. Everyone should have an equal opportunity to receive quality health care and through healthy equity, this can be achieved. Unfortunately for some people from different races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic group, they receive inequalities in health care and collectively these are known as health disparities.

So why study health disparities? Health disparities affect all of our lives and the right career choice can make a difference. It is time to change the way we work toward eliminating these inequalities. It is up to all of us to create a healthy community.

Disparities to Equity Series

This year we are unveiling a series of sessions to bring awareness to the disparities in health that effects students’ personal lives and the community. Our goal is to allow professionals the opportunity to connect with our students by discussing their career path and how they can assist with dissolving health disparities in the future careers that they choose. Specifically, the professionals will highlight the following:

  • Explore college experience (What supports or barriers did you face? How did you decide on your career path?)
  • Explore career (Where do you work? What do you do?)
  • Explore how you address health disparities in your career
  • Discus the importance of your role and how other public health professions support your clients/purpose

There will be four presentations during the series, each touching on specific types of careers impacting the health of our communities.
The careers that will be highlighted are:
