This monograph provides an overview of the work of Romeo Celleghin, an Italian-born artist who immigrated to northeast Ohio in the early 20th century and became one of the area's premier church artists. Celleghin and his team of craftsmen and artisans decorated all or a portion of a wide range of churches, among them the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, and St. Emeric Catholic Church in Ohio City. The monograph is illustrated with nearly 50 color photographs of Celleghin's frescos and murals. Whitelaw's text provides a case study of one artist's contribution to the religious art of a particular region at a particular time. This case study offers insight into the entire process of appreciating and documenting religious artwork and the value they add to one's appreciation of the sacred.
