This text asks the question: What can be done to improve America's poorest urban neighborhoods? Bright considers that question by discussing the approaches used in a variety of low-income neighborhoods that have achieved some degree of successful revitalization. She conducted field research in a dozen cities, interviewing government officials, community groups, and neighborhood representatives and visited each of the revitalization projects. The case studies here offer valuable, transferable lessons for achieving successful redevelopment.
