About the Series

Our Place in the Urban Age is a year-long series celebrating of the 30th anniversary of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs. The forum series, entitled Our Place in the Urban Age, will explore the dynamic role of cities in a world transformed by technology, climate change, modern lifestyles and a global economy. What will America’s urban centers look like in what some are calling the Urban Age? What economic functions will cities serve, how will the quality of life change, and how will Cleveland and Northeast Ohio adapt?

About this Forum

What does it mean to create and sustain communities of choice in our cities? Green building and other sustainability practices are at the forefront now. But what else does it take to create truly sustainable neighborhoods for the coming age in challenged urban environments?

Doris Koo, the new President and CEO of Enterprise Community Partners will share lessons learned through her organization’s work with communities, including Cleveland, to make healthy, sustainable neighborhoods that support success for all residents. Access to opportunity, education, housing, health care, public safety—all are part of the integrated approach of Enterprise since its founding 25 years ago by James Rouse, real estate developer and community planner. Enterprise is an active partner in building communities of choice in Cleveland, having invested $187 million in the city over the past 18 years.

Koo will be joined by India Pierce Lee, Program Director and Lillian Kuri, Director of Special Projects at the Cleveland Foundation. They will talk about strategies for integrating green building principles and sustainability concepts into their work with neighborhoods and development projects in Cleveland.
