CESSWI Exam Review | Parking | Directions | Transportation | CESSWI Overview
The Great Lakes Environmental Finance Center (GLEFC) is partnering with various local agencies to provide a review class and exam in northeast Ohio for Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) Certification. By providing this review course and exam locally, it will make it more cost effective for inspectors interested in distinguishing themselves as certified, qualified professionals. In turn, this will make it easier for both the regulators and the regulated community to identify and employ qualified inspection staff to observe and report the adequacy of erosion and sediment controls and storm water management for construction, industrial, and municipal operations.
The GLEFC is sponsoring this training program in cooperation with the City of Parma Engineering Department, the Ohio EPA Northeast District Office, Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, the Great Lakes Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association, and Natural Resource Conservation Service.
Who should attend?
CESSWI certification is intended for those planning to conduct inspections and document compliance and non-compliance issues, for example, municipal inspectors who are checking for compliance with an approved storm water pollution prevention plans (SWP3s). This certification is not intended for those looking for credentials related to reviewing, approving or requiring amendments to SWP3s.
Please note that those planning to sit for the CESSWI exam are not required to take the exam review class nor are those taking the exam review class required to take the exam. To sit for the exam, you must have prior approval from Certified Professionals in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) Inc. Approval, which takes at least 30 days, is gained through the CPESC Application process. Certified Professionals in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) Inc. has developed its Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector Certification Program (CESSWI). This new program is available to all qualified technicians and inspectors who wish to demonstrate their proficiencies in construction and post construction inspection skills and abilities. Registrants will be expected to understand minimum requirements for inspections of erosion, sediment, and storm water management practices, activities, and sites as set forth by the United States Environmental Protection Agency's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) storm water permitting program and/or Canada's Department of Fisheries and Ocean's Requirements.
CESSWI certification provides assurance that candidates have demonstrated the minimum proficiencies needed to inspect construction and post construction Best Management Practices (BMPs).
Application for the CESSWI Exam To apply for certification, a candidate must submit his/her application and fee and successfully complete a written examination to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the basic inspection skills for erosion and sediment controls and storm water management. In the application, candidates must provide information on education and applicable work experience, along with references of those who can verify their experiences with inspection related activities. The candidate's application will be reviewed by a qualifications committee and notified of his/her eligibility to sit for an examination. The candidate must also subscribe to a code of ethics for inspectors.
