Cleveland Management Academy

Program Description

Background | Projects | Photo Gallery

The program will professionalize and empower the region’s public work force. Administrators will learn and practice the skills and tools they will need to meet the public management challenges of the 21st century. All customized workshops will focus on workplace efficiency, improved communications, customer service, change management, and innovative planning strategies.

Program results will positively affect the region and its citizens through the required work-related projects. The projects will address existing workplace problems and provide the opportunity for experiential learning to take place. The project methodology transforms the workplace into a real-life laboratory, integrating theory and practice and joining education and the worksite. Each participant will demonstrate learning by developing projects that directly address their agency’s and the region’s needs.

Managers will learn improved managerial efficiency and effectiveness. They will enhance their ability to handle multiple tasks and learn innovative approaches to every-day problems. They will learn and practice improved methods of intergovernmental communication and will connect knowledge and action through the projects.

The projects fulfill two functions within the curriculum design. First of all, they provide a valuable ROI to the participating agencies based on the consultant-level project results. Secondly, the projects become a public management laboratory for experiential learning where both participants and Levin College students can directly apply and practice workshop and classroom theories and acquired skills. The internally or externally focused project teams can draw upon the resources of the College and CSU to solve problems.

Goals

  • Encourage government efficiency and collaboration;
  • Produce projects that enhance government service delivery, public policy, and operational systems.
