Tough climate-change bill touted as good for state (Columbus Dispatch, Oct. 27, 2009) Ohio would gain up to 61,000 jobs by 2020 and see its economy grow by $3.7 billion if a
stringent climate-change bill becomes law, says the report released by the Ohio Business Council
for a Clean Economy.
Tech start-up aims to turn status quo on its face (Springfield News Sun, Oct. 31, 2009) A 20-year veteran of the technology development business has chosen Clark County as the home for his new company.
Economic troubles of Toledo area unyielding (Toledo Blade, Oct. 31, 2009) The jobless rate last month in Ohio was 10.1
percent, in Toledo it was 12.1 percent, and for Lucas County the rate
was 11.3 percent. Many of the unemployed come from downsizing in the
automotive and manufacturing industries. The national jobless rate was
9.8 percent.
Stimulus grants mean jobs for local medical institutions (The Plain Dealer, Nov. 1, 2009) Cleveland's major medical institutions are beginning to reap millions of dollars from special National Institutes of Health grants which they applied for earlier this year. And that money means jobs for Northeast Ohio.
Power plant wants to keep it clean (Akron Beacon Journal, Nov. 1, 2009) Biomass is the name given to renewable energy sources: wood, farm
products, manure, landfills and food waste. It is a growing fuel
source. Ohio ranks among the top five states for biomass sources and
could be a biomass leader.
Universities expand roles to include economic development (Crain's Cleveland Business, Nov. 2, 2009) Recently, however, economic development has become an even bigger
priority at the University of Akron, Kent State University and the
Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Ohio ranked No. 4 in business climate ranking (Dayton Daily News, Nov. 2, 2009) The business climate rankings are determined by a business
activity-tracking database run by Conway Data Inc., publisher of Site
Selection, and by a survey of corporate site seekers across the country.
Liquid crystal niche grows (Akron Beacon Journal, Nov. 2, 2009) Although liquid crystal display technology was invented at Kent State
University, 99.9 percent of the products using it - from computers to
televisions - are made overseas. But a modern twist to the technology, invented by a Kent company, is finally creating some manufacturing jobs here.
New plant brings new jobs to Monroe County (WTRF News, Nov. 2, 2009) Voith Hydro announced Monday that it would open a manufacturing facility in Hannibal, Ohio. Company officials hope to hire 40 workers when it is fully up and running in March of 2010.
State considers $250,000 grant for Dayton aerospace hub (Dayton Daily News, Nov. 2, 2009) Ohio is considering providing a $250,000 grant to help the Dayton
region organize itself as a state-designated hub of aerospace
innovation and technology.
Region ready to dig deeper into tech fund (Cincinnati Business Courier, Nov. 2, 2009) Southwest Ohio is looking for ways to garner a larger slice of the pie
in a proposed second go-around of the state's $1.6 billion Third
Frontier technology-funding initiative. |
