Safety Film "Shots Fired"

CSU's Police and Safety Department are showing the DVD "Shots Fired" about surviving an active shooter situation on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at noon, Bonda Community Board Room, 254. All are encouraged to attend.


News from the Center for Leadership Development

The Center for Leadership Development hosts the Career Executive Service Program Track #4, Negotiation & Mediation on January 30, 2009, 8:00 a.m. - noon, Bonda Community Board Room. The Track Coordinator is Kenneth Kovach, Assistant Track Coordinator is Dr. Sanda Kaufman.

On Thursday, February 5, the Center for Leadership Development hosts NEO-Smart Cohort #1 "Customer Service Skills" in Wooster, Ohio. Dr. Sanda Kaufman of the Levin College will facilitate.

You are invited to a panel discussion on "Regionalism & Economic Development" on Friday, February 6, 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the atrium as the Center for Leadership Development hosts Leadership Academy XVIII's Module #4. Panelists include: Bruce Akers, Mayor, City of Pepper Pike; Bob Bowman, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development, City of Akron; Howard Maier, Executive Director , NOACA; Tracey Nichols, Director of Economic Development, City of Cleveland; Brad Whitehead, President, The Fund for our Economic Future; and a representative from Team NEO. Mark Rosentraub was quoted in The New York Times in the article "A Coveted Team, a Tangled Web, a Tough Sell."

Jeffrey L. Brudney, Albert A. Levin Chair of Urban Studies and Public Service, will participate at the international Invitational Symposium on Involved Learning, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on January 23-24, 2009. Dr. brudney will give a presentation on "Volunteer Management and the Different Modules of Involved Learning."

Kathy Hexter was quoted in the Tribune Chronicle for the story "Study: Some school collaboration OK." The story contins information from the survey "2008 Northeast Ohio Barometer of Economic Attitudes" that was conducted by the Levin College at CSU and Wright State University for The Fund for Our Economic Future.

Interim Dean Ned Hill is quoted in the Crain's Cleveland Business article "Asset privatization talk heats up." The article is available to online subscribers here

Nancy M. Emerick, Levin College Fulbright Scholar, has reached Presov University in Slovakia to begin the spring semester. Both Nancy and her cat Abby arrived safely and are looking foward to this new experience.

Maxine Goodman Levin Discretionary Fund 2009 Award Proposals

In accordance with the wishes of Maxine Goodman Levin to enhance the careers, advance the scholarship, and support research and professional development for women at the Levin College, proposals are now being accepted for discretionary fund awards. The intent of these awards is to assure that women at the Levin College have equal access to funds for research, scholarships, and professional development such as professional travel, equipment, or research project seed funding, etc. Recipients of the funds will be expected to submit a summary of how the funds were used.

Deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Award Notification expected by Friday, March 27, 2009. Proposals can be dropped off at UR 322 or directed via campus mail to Jane McCrone, UR 322.


For Students and From Students

CSU APA is having their first meeting of the spring semester, Wednesday, January 28, Sweet Seminar Room, 241,5:00-5:45pm. All urban graduates and undergraduates of all majors and concentrations are welcome to attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

CSU APA is hosting a social event on Saturday, February 28, 2009, 8:00 p.m. at Severance Hall. Join in the sights and sounds of Cleveland with a performance of Beethoven by the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra. Group balcony seats are $20.50 per person. Final commitments must be received by Friday, January 30th. Ticket requests and more information at csu.apa@gmail.com.
