In Memoriam - Paul A. Unger

The Levin College was saddened to learn of the death of Paul A. Unger. Mr. Unger was a friend and donor to Cleveland State University. He helped to establish and fund the Unger International Center for Local Government Leadership at Levin College. The Plain Dealer ran an editorial called "Paul A. Unger, citizen of the world" that is available online. Mr. Unger was 94 years old and is survived by his wife Sonja and his children Alan F. of Mill Valley, CA, Gerald F. of Bratenahl, OH, and Tamara of Sonoma, CA. Mr. Unger will be missed.


News from the Unger International Center for Local Government Leadership

On Tuesday, February 10, 2009, (10-11:30 a.m.) three members of the Croatian Parliament will meet with Tom Cozzens, Director of the Unger International Center for Local Government Leadership, to discuss the accomplishments of the Unger Center in Croatia over the last decade and the center's future plans for working with the Croatian Association of Cities.  This visit is sponsored by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA).


News from the Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service

The Ohio Center for the Advancement of Women in Public Service participated in a kickoff event for the Columbus Success Legislative Internship Program.  The luncheon was held on February 4th, at the Statehouse in Columbus. The Columbus Success Legislative Internship Program is a partnership between the Levin College of Urban Affairs and the University of Akron's Bliss Institute for Applied Politics.  Through this partnership, Cleveland State University students may participate in the Bliss Institute's existing program, which offers semester-long legislative internships in our state capitol.  CSU's first participants in the internship program will be in Columbus over the Summer 2009 term. LCUA Out and About

Kevin O'Brien is presenting "The Nuts and Bolts of Public Finance" for the Medina Chamber of Commerce on February 23, 2009. The event is open to the public at the new Medina Public Library Main Branch and is scheduled from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Kevin O'Brien was quoted in the Crain's Cleveland Business article, "Cleveland to balance budget despite expected revenue drop."

Dr. Mark Rosentraub was interviewed and on NPR's "All Things Considered," Tuesday 27th of January, "Stimulus Package Includes Millions for the Arts." The broadcast can be found on NPR's website.

Maxine Goodman Levin Discretionary Fund 2009 Award Proposals-Deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009

In accordance with the wishes of Maxine Goodman Levin to enhance the careers, advance the scholarship, and support research and professional development for women at the Levin College, proposals are now being accepted for discretionary fund awards. The intent of these awards is to assure that women at the Levin College have equal access to funds for research, scholarships, and professional development such as professional travel, equipment, or research project seed funding, etc. Recipients of the funds will be expected to submit a summary of how the funds were used.

Deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Award Notification expected by Friday, March 27, 2009. Proposals can be dropped off at UR 322 or directed via campus mail to Jane McCrone, UR 322.
