Congratulations to Dr. Iryna Lendel

Congratulations to Dr. Iryna Lendel (’08 Ph.D.) on being selected as a Fulbright New Century Scholar for the 2009-10 program, "The University as Innovation Driver and Knowledge Center.” As a New Century Scholar, Iryna and her colleagues will be engaging in multinational debate, discussion, and collaboration of the highest quality on a topic of critical global significance. 


Congratulations to Christopher S. Ronayne ('97 MUPDD)

Congratulations to Christopher S. Ronayne (’97 MUPDD) who will receive the   CSU 2009 Distinguished Alumni award representing  the Levin College of Urban Affairs.  Ronayne is the President of University Circle, Inc. and former Director of Planning for the City of Cleveland (under Mayor Jane Campbell).  Chris continues to be actively engaged with the Levin College and CSU.  He is a member of the college’s Visiting Committee, has guest lectured in urban affairs classes, and is a mentor in the college’s mentoring program.  The Distinguished Alumni event is scheduled for Friday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center.  For information about tickets call (216) 687-2078.

New Exhibit in the Thomas F. Campbell, Ph.D. Exhibition Gallery

This Thursday, February 12, 2009, you are invited to an opening reception and lecture titled: "El Choco, Colombia: Struggle for Cultural and Environmental Survival." This is an integrated exhibit of photographs and texts by Steve Cagan. Photographer and writer Steve Cagan's new exhibit features the rain forest area of El Choco, Colombia and the special river-based Afro-Colombian and indigenous cultures there. It documents the communities' resistance to threats to their forest and their cultures from the violence of the civil war and pressures of rapidly expanding lumbering and mining. This is a Levin College Forum Program event.

4:00-5:30 p.m. Reception
5:30-6:00 p.m. Steven Cagan "Photographic Communication Across Cultural Boundaries: Some Ethical Consideration".

The exhibit runs from February 1 to March 31, 2009. Gallery hours are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

Maxine Goodman Levin Discretionary Fund 2009 Award Proposals-Deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009

In accordance with the wishes of Maxine Goodman Levin to enhance the careers, advance the scholarship, and support research and professional development for women at the Levin College, proposals are now being accepted for discretionary fund awards. The intent of these awards is to assure that women at the Levin College have equal access to funds for research, scholarships, and professional development such as professional travel, equipment, or research project seed funding, etc. Recipients of the funds will be expected to submit a summary of how the funds were used.

Deadline: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Award Notification expected by Friday, March 27, 2009. Proposals can be dropped off at UR 322 or directed via campus mail to Jane McCrone, UR 322.


There is still time to participate in CSU's Uniting to Share Campaign

The University’s Uniting to Share Campaign is underway and both Marilyn Polivka and Jane McCrone have background materials on participating agencies.  The campaign runs through January 31, 2009. The CSU website is http://mycsu.csuohio.edu/uts/
