The new 2010 Census dataset PL 94-171 has been released and features custom reports and maps created by NODIS. Dr. Mark Salling, Director of Nodis discusses the population data during an interview which can be heard at www.wksu.org. To view the data set visit: urban.csuohio.edu/.

Levin Visiting Committee member Brad Whitehead, President of the Fund For Our Economic Future along with support from an economic analysis conducted by Cleveland State discusses the role of JumpStart, an Economic Development Group currently under the spotlight. The Levin College is partnering with the University of Akron and the University of Mount Union on a new public policy research program, beginning with a panel discussion on “Civility and Ohio Politics” in May. Professor Ronnie Dunn has co-authored a book with Wornie Reed. The book is titled "Racial Profiling: Causes & Consequences " by Kendall-Hunt Publishing. Though it is to be a textbook, it was written for the general public as well. There will be book signings and discussions. The book is available on-line at www.kendallhunt.com.

The Center for Leadership Development Begins Work with Cleveland Hopkins International Airport! -- The Center for Leadership Development will be delivering 5 full days of Public Management Academy workshops for participants in the Cleveland Hopkins "Accelerated Leadership Development Program". Classes will run from April through July, 2011. The Center for Leadership Development has been contracted to deliver more workshops over a two year period, so stay tuned!

Network and Rediscover Levin! -- Saturday April 2, 2011. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs and the student chapter of the American Planning Association will be hosting a Networking and Informational event Saturday April 2nd, 10:00am-1:00pm in the Roberta Steinbacher Atrium for both current and perspective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders. Save the date, more information to follow!

Save the Date for In Tribute 2011 -- June 1, 2011. This year the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs will honor Joseph Roman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Cleveland Partnership. The event will be held at the historic Hanna Theater on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. More information will be forthcoming.

CSU Alumni Association -- Distinguished Alumni Awards -- October 21, 2011. The Alumni Awards will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Inter Continental Hotel and Conference Center. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs will honor Madeline A. Cain. More information to follow.

Summer In The City

A unique new program invites students to spend SUMMER IN THE CITY at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs. This 9-week internship program (June 13-August 12) offers the opportunity to experience how urban organizations really work, while spending most learning time out of the classroom. While CSU students are welcome, it is especially designed for students who attend college outside of Cleveland, are home for the summer, and want to earn credit that transfers to their schools. Introduction to ArcGIS I (Geographic Information Systems)

May 18, 19 and 20, 2011

The Levin College of Urban Affairs is offering an introductory ArcGIS 10 workshop. This three-day workshop is taught by Jim Wyles, a certified GIS Professional (GISP). Classes will be held on May 18, 19 and 20, 2011, from 8:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M. in the GIS computer lab (Room 40) at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University located at 1717 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115.

This course introduces participants to ArcGIS and its component applications. Participants learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. Participants become familiar with the ArcGIS graphical user interface (GUI), and learn how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. Workshop materials, including a workbook and data CD, are provided. Upon successful completion of the workshop certificates are awarded.

*CSU faculty, staff and students are offered the discounted rate of $250 (regular price $800).*
(Note: Priority is given to attendees paying the full price. In the event that an attendee paying the discounted rate is bumped he/she will receive a refund.) Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. No experience with desktop mapping or GIS technology is required, but registrants should know how to use Windows-based software.
