Students named as finalists for President Management Fellows Program (PMF)

CONGRATULATIONS! to Cleveland State University students Philip Angelo and Paul Porter who have been named finalists in the competition for the prestigious Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF).  Both students will graduate in May 2009 from the Levin College of Urban Affairs, Mr. Porter with a Master of Public Administration and Mr. Angelo with a Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.  There were 785 finalists selected from a pool of over 4,200 nominees nationwide, the largest amount of applicants in the history of the program.

The President Management Fellowship Program is a federally funded government program under the auspices of the United States Office of Personnel Management that recruits students who have demonstrated "a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs" and helps guide them into jobs in public service agencies across the nation. Both finalists will attend the annual OPM job fair held in Washington, DC at the end of April, where they will meet representatives from participating agencies and begin the interview process for their appointment.

This Friday--2nd Annual Government Career Day

The 2nd Annual Government Career Day will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 from 9:00am – 2:00pm in the College of Urban Affairs atrium at Cleveland State University (1717 Euclid Avenue).  Representatives from federal, state and local government agencies will be in attendance.

A series of workshops will be offered during the day covering such topics as navigating the usajobs.gov website, writing KSA’s; applying for jobs with the State of Ohio; and Federal Internships and Special Programs.

The main purpose of this event is educational, giving participants a chance to learn about the different agencies and the types of qualifications that they will need to be a competitive applicant.  Agencies will primarily be there to provide information about their missions and the responsibilities and qualifications of typical positions in their agencies.  Some agencies will be recruiting for internships, local positions, or positions in other geographic areas, while other agencies may not be actively recruiting.

The event is sponsored by the Federal Executive Board of Cleveland and Cleveland State University in cooperation with John Carroll University, Baldwin-Wallace College, and Case Western Reserve University.  For more information, please call CSU at 216.687.2233, or email questions to careers@csuohio.edu.
