In Tribute to the Public Service: A Salute to Judy and Bob Rawson Scholarship Event

Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs has named Judy and Bob Rawson as recipients of the 2009 In Tribute to the Public Service Award. The award will be presented during an In Tribute program and award ceremony on Thursday, May 7 at the Hanna Theater, 2067 East 14th Street. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m.  More information and tickets here


Congratulations to Dr. Jessica Sowa

The Ohio Board of Regents granted tenure and promotion to Jessica Sowa, Associate Professor, on April 4 (effective August, 2009). Well done!


Undergraduate Engaged Learning Research/Creative Achievement Awards will Support 71 CSU Students during Summer 2009

Seventy one CSU undergraduate students will have the opportunity to work on summer research projects with faculty mentors during summer 2009. Fifty six proposals were received from five colleges and 38 were funded across 16 departments. Congratulations to Dr. Sung-Gheel Jang and Dr. Joel Elvery, of the Levin College, who received funding for the following projects:

  • Dr. Sung-Gheel Jang--Geo-Narrating Cleveland using Google Earth (2 students)
  • Dr. Joel Elvery--Defining and Characterizing Employment Centers (1 student)

The funds for the projects, totaling $295,625, were provided from the Provost’s office. The Provost’s office will also sponsor a Poster Session for these projects Thursday September 3rd from 10:00am – 2:00pm in the Library. Faculty and Staff Technology Fair – Call for Topics

CSU's IS&T, along with the Center for eLearning, Center for Teaching Excellence and the University Library, host a Faculty and Staff Technology Fair early in the Fall semester.  This fair is intended to showcase technologies that are available to the university.  Please take a moment to consider what technologies or topics you want to see at the 2009 fair (Vendors, Presentations, etc.).

UUP Forum in Columbus-"What is going on? The macroeconomy in a turbulent time," Tuesday, May 5

DR. EDWARD (NED) HILL
will present an overview of the macroeconomy in a presentation entitled, “What is going on? The macroeconomy in a turbulent time.” The presentation is an update on the causes of the current recession, the impact of the recession on industries that are critical to Ohio, and a discussion of public policy challenges that face our state and the nation. This presentation is an update of a presentation that was given by Dr. Hill to new legislators
in November 2008. The presentation will be followed by comments from a panel and audience questions and discussion.

    Jeffrey L. Brudney, Ph.D., Albert A. Levin Chair of Urban Studies and Public Service, will moderate a panel session on “Compliance, Resistance, and Innovation,” at the Second Annual Symposium on “Combining Practice and Theory to Improve Nonprofit Accountability and Governance,” at Case Western Reserve University, Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations, Cleveland, OH, April 16, 2009.

    Dr. Ronnie Dunn and Dr. Bill Bowen are part of a group that submitted a proposal to identify possible racial inequities in the county’s criminal justice system, as noted in the Plain Dealer’s article “County gets proposals for justice review.” 

    Interim Dean Ned Hill participated in the 8-part WKSU News Series "Good Jobs in a Bad Economy." He was interviewed by Vivian Goodman for her story, "Higher Pay: Higher Hopes" which is posted on the web at http://www.wksu.org/news/features/jobs/

    Winifred (Win) Weizer is quoted in the Sun Press article, “UH Draft charter was ‘plagiarism,’ two say; Boyle denies it.
