MGLCUA Junior Faculty Mini-Grant Program

The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs is excited to announce a mini-grant opportunity for junior faculty across Cleveland State University to develop preliminary data focused on addressing health disparities with the expectation to be used for future publications or larger research projects.   Mini-grants of up to $7,000 will be awarded annually from 2009-2012.   The deadline is May 15, 2009. Award notification will be May 29th and the project period will be from June 1, 2009 – April 30, 2010.

Applicants are encouraged to incorporate cross-disciplinary research though it is not required.   Each application should focus on research around health disparities with topics ranging from exploring a specific disease (i.e. diabetes, hypertension), conducting qualitative research on the impact of health disparities at the individual level, exploring community health, or health policy.

Applications and guidelines can be found at http://www.urban.csuohio.edu/che and submitted through campus mail Kendra Daniel, Urban Affairs Room 127 or via email k.daniel@csuohio.edu .

NEW Behind the Scenes at Gordon Square Arts District hosted by the Urban Alumni Organization and Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization

You are invited to join the Urban Alumni Organization for a guided walking tour of the Gordon Square Arts District, an exciting new addition to Cleveland’s arts scene at West 65 and Detroit.  The Gordon Square Arts District is a $30 million capital campaign to raise funds to renovate two theatres and build a new performance theatre, as well as rebuilding Detroit Avenue and creating additional parking.  The $7.5 million renovation of the Capitol Theatre is the first of the GSAD projects to start construction and is helping to leverage an additional $300 million in economic development in our community.  Special thanks to urban affairs graduate Lisa Kious McGovern of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization who will lead the tour.  Afterwards, the urban alumni organization will provide appetizers at the restaurant Luxe Kitchen and Lounge.  RSVP here to j.mccrone@csuohio.edu .
