In Tribute to the Public Service: A Salute to Judy and Bob Rawson Scholarship Event

Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs has named Judy and Bob Rawson as recipients of the 2009 In Tribute to the Public Service Award. The award will be presented during an In Tribute program and award ceremony on Thursday, May 7 at the Hanna Theater, 2067 East 14th Street. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m.  More information and tickets here

Judy Rawson served the City of Shaker Heights for 21 years, culminating in two terms as mayor. As mayor, she was noted for her leadership on regional economic development and tax sharing. She also served on the Commission on the Reform of Cuyahoga County Government and as Assistant Director of Law for the City of Cleveland. She drafted the Title IX legislation as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana.

Bob Rawson stepped down in 2007 after 15 years as partner-in-charge of the Cleveland office of Jones Day. He continues as a partner with the firm. Rawson served for 20 years on the Board of Princeton University. He was appointed to the CSU Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as vice chairperson. He is currently serving as Interim Dean of the Law School at Case Western Reserve University. He is former Chair of the National Civic League and currently on the Board of the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education.

DR. EDWARD (NED) HILL
will present an overview of the macroeconomy in a presentation entitled, “What is going on? The macroeconomy in a turbulent time.” The presentation is an update on the causes of the current recession, the impact of the recession on industries that are critical to Ohio, and a discussion of public policy challenges that face our state and the nation. This presentation is an update of a presentation that was given by Dr. Hill to new legislators
in November 2008. The presentation will be followed by comments from a panel and audience questions and discussion.

Transforming Cleveland by Building a WorldClass Waterfront, Thursday, April 30, 2009 | 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Forum is pleased to partner with the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority, the Urban Land Institute, Cleveland, the City of Cleveland and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance to engage the public in a discussion about the unprecedented opportunity for economic transformation on Cleveland’s lakefront. Speakers will highlight successful waterfront regeneration projects that have transformed other places, share best practices and present possibilities for Cleveland. CONGRATULATIONS TO PATRICK SWEENEY!
Patrick A. Sweeney
was selected to receive an Irma Lazarus Award at the Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio and Arts Day Luncheon that was held on April 1 in Columbus, Ohio. Since 1994, The Irma Lazarus Award, presented at the discretion of the Ohio Arts Council Board, honors the memory of Irma Lazarus, who made countless contributions as an arts patron, advocate and leader in the development of state funding for the arts in Ohio. It is presented to organizations or individuals who have helped shape public support for the arts through their work as advocates and have brought statewide, national and international recognition to Ohio through sustained dedication to artistic excellence.

Jeffrey L. Brudney, Albert A. Levin Chair of Urban Studies and Public Service, gave a presentation on “Outcome Assessment: Making The Case For Your Program” at the 67th Annual Human Services Institute at the Cleveland Convention Center on March 13, 2009. In addition, Dr. Brudney and Danielle Wonkovich, Masters of Urban Planning, Design, and Development candidate (2009), prepared a report on “Resources for Volunteer Administration and Management” that was distributed to participants at another Human Services Institute panel session on Volunteer Management.

Dr. Mark S. Rosentraub was quoted in the Voice of San Diego.org’ article “It Won’t Cost the Taxpayers a Thing.”

Jeffrey L. Brudney, Albert A. Levin Chair of Urban Studies and Public Service, gave a presentation on “Achieving Cost-Savings with Volunteers” at the Foundation Center on March 26, 2009.

Dr. Mark S. Rosentraub was quoted in Forbes.com in the article “The Next Stadium Wave.”
