For more information and registration http://urban.csuohio.edu/nodis/workshops/gis_workshop_07_2009.html LCUA Out and AboutDr. Michael Spicer presented a paper entitled "Openness to the Agon: An Examination of the Character of Politics and its Relationship to Public Administration" at the Public Administration Theory Network Conference held in Frankfort, Kentucky on May 29-31. Dr. Wendy Kellogg has a paper published in the June volume of the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management entitled "Ohio's Balanced Growth Program: a case study of collaboration for planning and policy design." The article is based on eight years of participation in the state-level program and research conducted as the basis of a set of policy papers for the Ohio Lake Erie Commission. JEPM is an international journal that focuses on environmental planning and management and is read primarily in the United States and Europe. Dr. Sugie Lee and Steven P. French have a paper published in the June volume of the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management entitled “Regional impervious surface estimation: an urban heat island application.” This paper describes a GIS-based estimation method that can be used to forecast future amounts of impervious surface as a mitigation measure for urban heat island effect in a metropolitan region. The method is unique because it employs a regression model that links the existing amount of impervious surface to population and employment at the census tract level. Three graduate students in the MUPDD program presented their study on the Lakewood Gold Coast study to the Lakewood Planning Commission on Thursday, June 4. The participating students were Jason Russell, Christine Dersi, and Danielle Wonkovich. Kirby Date, AICP presented to the summer conference of the Ohio Association of Planning Directors on "The Ohio Lake Erie Commission's Balanced Growth Program and Best Local Land Use Practices" on June 1 in Columbus, Ohio.
