Senator Brown Announcement - Congratulations Ziona!

SEN. BROWN ANNOUNCES $150,000 TO BOLSTER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH AT CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY

Funds Will Provide Technical Assistance and Research and Development Tools for CSU Program

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced today that Cleveland State University was awarded $150,319 to fund the third year of a three year economic development program housed in the university. The Economic Development Administration (EDA) funds, distributed through the U.S Department of Commerce, enables CSU’s Center for Economic Development to continue to provide technical assistance and conduct research to advance urban and regional economic development.

“Northeast Ohio public and private sector leaders depend on the research tools available at Cleveland State University’s Center for Economic Development to implement economic development plans,” Brown said. “These funds will provide the knowledge-based tools needed to create new jobs. This center, housed at an outstanding public university, will also equip local leaders, businesses, and entrepreneurs with information that strengthens Ohio’s ability to remain competitive and lead in the 21st century.”

The total costs for this project is $369,184. EDA’s University Center program is a competitively-based partnership between EDA and academic institutions that makes the vast resources of universities available to the broader economic development community.

Brown has been working to promote economic development across Ohio by supporting the growth of emerging industries. Brown is a proponent of partnerships among institutions of higher education, industry, organized labor, and workforce boards. Brown introduced the Strengthening Employment Clusters to Organize Regional Success (SECTORS) Act. SECTORS organizes stakeholders connected to a regional industry—multiple firms, unions, education and training providers, and local workforce and education system administrators—to develop plans for growing that industry.
