Monday, December 3, 2007
10-11:30 a.m.
Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs
Glickman-Miller Hall, Atrium

Learn the do’s and don’ts of getting grants from several local funders and listen to opening remarks from U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones about her work involving the nonprofit sector. The grantmakers panel will give you the funders’ perspective on the grantseeking process. You will hear from leaders from such diverse organizations as a community foundation, private foundation, corporate foundation and a government agency.

This event will begin with remarks from Congresswoman Tubbs Jones who is one of two Ohioans on the powerful U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. She is a strong proponent of the nonprofit sector, evidenced both by her co-sponsorship of legislation such as the IRA Charitable Rollover and her co-chairmanship of the Congressional Philanthropy Caucus. Rep. Tubbs Jones will discuss her agenda for the region, her role on the committee, legislative priorities and her role within the Philanthropy Caucus.

In addition, you will learn about the latest giving trends in the state as described in the new Ohio Grantmakers Forum report “State of Homegrown Philanthropy, 2007.” This report features data, trends and stories about the vitality of giving in Ohio. Learn important statistics such as who are the largest funders in Greater Cleveland and the number of foundations in the area. This information can help shape your grantseeking strategies for the coming year.
