Training Sessions planned. We are hard at work on our project for the Ohio Lake Erie Commission to provide education about Best Practices for Local Governments in the Ohio Lake Erie Basin. Three general workshops will be held this fall, followed by ten technical workshops for designers, engineers, planners, and elected officials during the winter. See below for dates as they are posted.

New data arriving soon!
One of our goals for the next couple of months is to familiarize ourselves with development and planning issues, innovative development projects, and conservation-related zoning codes and planning initiatives across the basin from the Toledo area to Ashtabula County. Please contact us if you are aware of innovative practices occurring in your community. We are also updating our conservation development projects database and will have all new information by the end of the year.

This week marks the launching of the Countryside Program’s new web site at its new location, the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. We hope to provide you with news, ideas, and information about land use solutions that work. Check back often for updates on our projects. Our calendar will tell you about upcoming workshops and events we’re participating in. And we also will be posting model regulations, case studies, articles, and links to information. Our mission is to promote sustainable planning and development in rural and exurban areas. We hope you find this web site helpful as we work together to balance conservation and development for a better future.

This week, the City of Cuyahoga Falls Planning Commission voted down a proposed conservation development project in the Haas Road area, the first to be proposed under the city’s conservation development regulations. Commission members preferred to continue discussion on revisions to the proposal before approving it. We’ve also come across a fairly recent article on the economic benefits of conservation development subdivisions, by Rayman Mohamed of Wayne State University. It is posted on the web site of Greener Prospects, Randall Arendt’s consulting firm. Click here to view the PDF file .
