The Evangelion (Greek: "Book of the Gospels")contains the text of the four Gospels; in some editions the text is printed continuously, the lessons to be read in the liturgy on a particular day being noted in the margins (as in this example); while in others the text is arranged in the order required for liturgical use. The Gospel Book is treated with great reverence; the binding in silver or gold represents in precious materials the spiritual richness of the Word of God.
