Funnel
Sterling Silver, American, circa 1900
Lent by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

This silver funnel was used in the piscina located in the liturgical south wall of the sanctuary. The piscina is a sink set in a stone shelf and its drain leads directly to the ground. It is here that the cups and plates used for Holy communion were purified after their use. Practically, this lily-shaped funnel helped to facilitate pouring into the drain. It further touches the imagination with a sense of new life burgeoning from the stone tomb of the Easter story. This lily-shaped funnel was given in memory of Ann Jerusha Whitelaw by her daughter, Mary Augusta Whitelaw, on Christmas Day, 1909.
