Chalice and Paten from St. John Cathedral
Sterling Silver, Cast and Engraved
American, circa 1910
Lent by Archives, Cleveland Catholic Diocese

This chalice and paten, engraved with his personal coat of arms as Bishop, belonged to the most Reverend John Patrick Farrelly, the fourth bishop of Cleveland (1909-1921). The slender austerity of the chalice is in marked contrast to the heavily crafted styles of the Gothic Revival. The chalice and paten were given by Bishop Farrelly to St. John Cathedral in 1914 in memory of his parents.
