" Passageways: "Novel type of architecture in the XIXe century, the roofed passageway is a device that mediates between the design of the city, the rise of the trade of the luxury and a new sociability. General-purpose, it is dedicated as much to circulation as to leisure in all its forms. Among the forty passages emerging in the capital between the end of XVIIIth and the middle of the XIXth century, only seventeen still have their initial function. All are located on right bank of the Seine. They can be uncovered according to a progression reconciling topography and chronology "
