"Passages: Type architectural novateur au XIXe siècle, le passage couvert relève d'une adéquation entre la conception de la ville, l'essor- du commerce du luxe et une nouvelle sociabilité. Polyvalent, il est voué autant à la circulation qu'à l'agrément sous toutes ses formes. Parmi la quarantaine de passages qui firent les beaux jours de la capitale, entre la fin du XVIIIe et le milieu du XIXe siècle, dix-sept seulement ont encore leur fonction première. Tous sont situés sur la rive droite de la Seine. Leur découverte se fait quartier par quartier, suivant une progression conciliant topographie et chronologie. "
