About the Forum

On March 30, 2010 President Obama signed the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, completing health care reform. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act became law on March 23rd, one week earlier. The forums will look at the steps that are being taken to implement the Act at its one-year anniversary.

National health care reform will affect small businesses, consumers, and health care providers.  It will affect access to health care and access to health insurance for individuals and households across the spectrum.  The forums will address these issues through the lens of Northeast Ohio’s cities and the region’s economy.    The goal of the forums will be to educate the general public and to provide objective, factual information about the changes that can be expected as the components of the reform are phased-in.

One of the highlights of the forums will be a discussion of the opportunities the reform provides, including the need for urban primary care providers that is being addressed through a new partnership between NEOUCOM and Cleveland State University (CSU). This program will emphasize training more urban primary care professionals.

The first forum will include a video presentation by Senator Sherrod Brown, a representative from the Ohio Department of Insurance, stories told by three health care consumers representing previously unserved populations and a representative from COSE to talk about the impact on small businesses.

All forum events are free and open to the public.
