September 28 is National Voter Registration Day 2021

Cleveland State University’s Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) is a proud partner of National Voter Registration Day. The OCE, in collaboration with our partners, Northeast Ohio Voter Advocates, Campus Vote Project, Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, Alpha Kappa Alpha, CSU Student Government Officers, Cleveland NAACP, and the Greater Cleveland League of Women Voters, plans to register students and community members on Cleveland State University’s campus to celebrate NVRD.

WHEN: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Cleveland State University’s Office of Civic Engagement will host voter registration tables as part of a massive cross-country effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters in person and online.

WHERE: Cleveland State University Campus, in the Student Center on the second floor of the Inner Link, Ronald Berkman Hall on the first floor, and the outdoor plaza between the Student Center, Ronald Berkman Hall, and the Michael Schwartz Library.

WHY: National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday that seeks to increase civic participation by encouraging Americans to register to vote and turn out to vote every single year. Started in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise one of their most basic rights – the right to vote. “The OCE provides multiple opportunities throughout the year for CSU students to register to vote and update their voter registrations, but with local elections happening in just a few weeks, NVRD is a great place to get started if someone wants to be vote ready for the November 2 election. The last day to register for the November 2 General Election, is October 4. There are several important local elections happening in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, including the Cleveland Mayoral election, and we want to make sure everyone can connect with nonpartisan organizations to learn about issues that are important to them and the communities where they live,” said Anita Ruf-Young, Director, Office of Civic Engagement.

Want to vote this year? Make sure you’re #VoteReady

  • If you’ve recently moved, turned 18, or changed your name you may not be #VoteReady!
  • Learn about what forms of identification are acceptable to vote in person.
  • Find out where your polling location is prior to election day.

Consider:

  • As many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote.
  • Registration rates in communities of color lag significantly behind the general electorate.
  • Less than 60% of potential voters aged 18-24 reported being registered to vote.
