Meet Becky Hecker-Bornino

OCE Vikings Corps Tutor Becky Bornino at Davis A & M F2020What benefits do you feel you gained from being part of the OCE Viking Corps program?
I have learned that there are many people in the community that need positive caring role models to encourage and support them. The Viking Corps program has given me the opportunity to serve the students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Volunteering my time to tutor and support these students has enriched my life. Serving others has helped me to grow as a person and to develop meaningful relationships that have positively impacted their success. Thank you to the OCE and Anita Ruf-Young for the opportunity to help these students.

What rewarding or special experiences have you had as a tutor at Davis Aerospace & Maritime?
I have had the pleasure of connecting with several students in the program. These young students have given me a sense of purpose. It feels good when a student requests you to help them with their assignments. Its even more rewarding when you see them smile and tell you that they received a good grade on their assignment.

What impact do you think you have on your community by working at Davis Aerospace & Maritime?
Giving back has been a great way to get to know the members of the community. I have observed students strengthen their comprehension, increase their confidence, and build on their learning skills. Spending time with these students has broadened my perspective of the community, and has taught me about patience, kindness, and resilience.
