Office of Civic Engagement

Meet Curtis Roden

Curtis RodenCurtis served as an OCE Viking Corps student worker at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland and as a student assistant for the Office of Civic Engagement. Curtis graduated from CSU with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences.

What do you recall about your experiences working at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland?
eing new to the Cleveland area, being part of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland was a rewarding way to get to know the city and its community. I enjoyed seeing the kids light up when I taught them music or played games with them.

How was your professional development enhanced when you worked as a Student Assistant in the OCE?
In the OCE, I gained extensive knowledge about hiring processes, building programs from the ground up, running ever expanding spreadsheets and budgets, and so much more. Moving office operations across campus is one particular skill that I gained, which I don’t want to use again! The most important thing I learned was probably the versatility of sticky notes.

What academic, career, or personal endeavors are you currently pursuing?
I was accepted into the Cleveland State Doctorate of Physical Therapy program and will begin classes in January of 2022. While waiting for the program to begin, I am the head coach of American Flyers Diving Club.

How did you benefit from working in the community as a Viking Corps Student Worker at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland?
One big thing I gained from Viking Corps is networking. I came in contact with faculty, students, community members, and professionals that I would have never met otherwise.
