Office of Civic Engagement

Meet Rachel Williams

Rachel WilliamsRachel became a Viking Corps tutor at the Cleveland Public Library for the Fall 2021 semester for the Office of Civic Engagement. She is currently majoring in Music Therapy and is part of CSU's Symphonic Band.

"Participating in programs like Viking Corps, gives students a wide background in different activities, which has potential to be impressive on job/school applications."

Why did you choose to attend CSU?
I chose to attend CSU because I really liked the Music Therapy program. Out of all the schools I had looked at, the program at CSU was the most developed for Music Therapy.

What made you want to work as a Viking Corps Tutor?
I wanted to work as a CPL Viking Corps tutor because it is very rewarding to have the opportunity to work with students in need of academic help.

What do you feel you will gain being a tutor or be able to give being a tutor?
Being a tutor not only helps the students, but it helps you as well. You can learn more about people and how to adjust your strategies to best fit and help every individual you work with. Every student needs help with something at some point in their academic career. Tutors provide help that they might not otherwise have the ability to take advantage of.

Do have other tutoring or community service experience?
In high school, I was involved in the National Honor Society (NHS), which provided tutoring services and other community service opportunities.

Why should other students get involved with Viking Corps or America Reads while they are students at CSU?
Other students should get involved in programs at CSU because it can be super fun, and it allows students many opportunities to explore hobbies and interests.
