Meet Raymond McCray

Raymond McCrayRaymond served as a tutor in the OCE America Reads Program at the Cleveland Public Library (CPL) during the Spring semester of 2019. He graduated from CSU in Summer 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and major in Management.

What do you feel you have gained from working as a tutor?
I have always wanted to teach and the CPL, through the OCE at CSU, gave me that opportunity. Working for the CPL America Reads program was easy for me; it was work I always wanted to participate in. That, in itself, was the biggest benefit of all.

How did you grow in your personal or professional development when you worked for the program?
Being a CPL tutor reinforced the idea of being a role model. I grew professionally because I learned how much I was needed.

What is your most valued memory while working as a tutor for the CPL America Reads program?
Anita was a joy to work for. We taught the children a variety of subjects and they received it well. My most valued memory while working as a tutor for the CPL America Reads program was when I would hold reading and math contests for the children. I really enjoyed seeing their "ah-ha" moments. Those activities really warmed my heart. I would have worked for the CPL America Reads program for many semesters to come if I wasn’t about to graduate the next semester. Thanks for the experience!

What academic, career, or personal endeavors are you currently pursuing?
I am focusing on my childhood dreams and passions. Acting and singing fills my world.
