Programs:

Center for Emergency Preparedness
The Center for Emergency Preparedness (CEP) has been the Leader in Ohio’s Emergency Preparedness for over 35 years. CEP offers courses, programs, and workshops in: Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat), Confined Space, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Business Continuity and Emergency Planning, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hospital Healthcare First Receiver, and various specialty courses. Diversity Institute
The Diversity Institute is an academic research and action center for confronting the range of topics encompassed under the umbrella of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Staff work to identify issues within Cleveland State University that can be addressed through a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework and collaborate with essential team members to address them. Recognizing the interdependence with the wider community, Diversity Institute staff also collaborate with external partners to tackle these issues as they present outside the university.

Ohio Certified Public Manager® Program
The Ohio Certified Public Manager® (OCPM) Program is a comprehensive and nationally certified development program for state and local government leaders. Cleveland State University's Center for Public & Nonprofit Management delivers the official CPM certification program for the state of Ohio. To receive this credential, participants must enroll in and successfully complete the Public Management Academy and Leadership Academy.

Workshops:

Introduction to ArcGIS
Introduction to ArcGIS introduces participants to ArcGIS and its component applications. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. Participants become familiar with the ArcGIS graphical user interface (GUI), and learn how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts.

Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Become a Diversity Champion: Six-Week Module Workshop in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In this workshop you will:

  • Review the current and historical complexities of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.
  • Understand how the role of “self” and how “self” operates, both consciously and unconsciously, to use oneself to influence others in the service of DE&I change.
  • Explore some of the prevalent psychological tendencies that can produce impediments to an inclusive work environment.
  • Understand the critical, yet often invisible, role that power dynamics play and its direct relationship to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.
  • Learn to effectively provide and cultivate and inclusive workplace environment through an understanding of group dynamics and conflict management skills.
  • Identify organizational interventions compatible with the culture and level of commitment.

Leadership Academy
Leadership Academy is the premier public sector leadership development program in the region. Established in 1990, the program has over 600 graduates representing major governmental and nonprofit organizations throughout northeast Ohio. The program is a great fit for appointed and elected officials, nonprofit administrators and aspiring leaders. The program is designed to encompass topics in leadership as well as personal and organizational development. Participants will meet in a variety of locations showcasing employers and institutions throughout the Cleveland area.

Lean Ohio Bootcamp
LeanOhio Boot Camp is an intensive week-long training that gets people learning and using Lean methods and tools. The entire program is tailored to the public-sector workplace and public-sector processes. Lean Ohio is practical training aimed at generating results. Participants will be able to use their new knowledge and skills immediately -- to make government simpler, faster, better, and less costly. The training is filled with government examples and exercises. Included is an in-depth simulation involving a prototypical agency, so participants build their toolkits by way of a real-world situation.

Nonprofit Management Academy
This one-year, comprehensive program allows nonprofit managers to sharpen their supervisory and management skills. Participants engage in customized workshops and a capstone project. Managers develop a nonprofit toolkit and complete real-world process improvement projects. Grounded in academic research and best practices, this workshop delivers concepts, applications, and methods illustrating the broad array of expertise vital to managing a sustainable operation, while adhering to the nonprofit’s mission.

Public Management Academy
The Public Management Academy (PMA) is a comprehensive management development certificate program for public managers. It professionalizes public managers as they learn and practice the management skills and tools they will need to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Academy offers a one year series of customized workshops, creating a “public manager’s tool kit”.
